“You don’t love because: you love despite; not for the virtues, but despite the faults.”

Q&A WITH THE BRIDE
What’s your love story? How did you meet?
“Kenny and I met on the online dating site, Okcupid! I actually messaged him first. I was at a point in my life where I was ready to find a man whom I’d considered marriage material. I quickly realized, at least on paper, Kenny met all my non-negotiables. We laid out everything on the table before we even met up. Knowing where each other stood on the “big issues” definitely created a comfort zone. I admit I was pretty nervous about our first date. We met up in Chinatown, and attempted to do sightseeing at DC museums, but ended up finding a park bench and chatting for a few hours. We finished our date with dinner at one of my favorite spots, Matchbox. Halfway through dinner, he was already trying to lock in the second date! He was persistent!”
What are your favorite memories, as a couple?
“The first year we were together, we took a weeklong trip up to one of my friends’ beautiful summer homes in Martha’s Vineyard, MA, and had a really great time. Kenny and I spent a lot of quality time together in our little hideaway. I think it was really the first time we both realized marriage was on the horizon. We made many beautiful memories dancing together over the years. We would go to a salsa club one week then a country-line bar the next. Kenny and I invested in each other’s cultures, backgrounds, and interests. He’s Mexican/Nicaraguan and I’m Hungarian-American. We learned so much from each other. I dragged him to dance clubs, or into running ten-mile races with me. He dragged me to sporting events. We dragged along together! *laughs* It was really millions of tiny threads of memories that added up to a beautiful tapestry that is our love story. I’ve learned that it’s not really the big moments, but rather the subtle memories that linger.”
What advice would you give for newly engaged couples?
Practically-speaking: book your vendors early. Our wedding really had the dream team, with competent vendors we trusted, because we reserved them as soon as we got engaged. The vendors are really the foundation for what makes a great wedding. On the wedding day, take a moment to stop and look around. Brides always say everything was a blur and they don’t remember much about the big day. Stop and remember. Your wedding day is not just about your love, but celebrating together with everyone who made you who you are today. Cherish that.”
